Golden State Warriors Valued At $800 Million
Posted by Luis Cuevas on Aug 19, 2013 - 11:35:06 AM

OAKLAND—The Golden State Warriors basketball team is estimated to be worth $800 million. Industry insiders laughed at the $450 million that Joe Lacob and Peter Guber paid for the Warriors in November 2010. Less than three years later, they’ve nearly tripled the franchise’s value.

Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry.

The two agreed to pay the highest price ever for an NBA franchise and it has paid off for them. The new valuation comes from the price Silicon Valley venture capitalist Mark Stevens, who agreed to pay for a share of the team that was made available when Vivek Ranadive sold his share to buy the Sacramento Kings back in May.

Stevens, the managing partner of S-Cubed capital was paying for the future. Last year the team announced it’s intention to build a privately funded arena, which is still going through its necessary approvals, in San Francisco. The Warriors are coming off their best regular-season record since 2008 and their most impressive playoff run since 1977. The Warriors have a core that includes Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes that are still young and are only expected to get better with time.
