Howard Ruled Out Of Preseason Opener

LOS ANGELES—Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers officially announced that new center, Dwight Howard, will miss the start of training camp and at least the team's first preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on October 7.

Howard had surgery on his back in April and missed the remainder of the season with the Orlando Magic. When the Lakers signed Howard in the offseason's biggest trade, they knew Howard would likely miss the beginning of the season.
Howard, trainer Gary Vitti, and general manager Mitch Kupchak, are all very optimistic that Howard may be able to start the season on time, however. Odds are that Howard will be back to 100% at some point this season.
