Kidd played his best years with the Brooklyn Nets better known as the New Jersey Nets. He took the team to multiple NBA Finals appearances, the first in 2002 in which the Los Angeles Lakers swept them. In 2003, they made it back to the NBA Finals, but this year they were eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs. Jason Kidd would eventually win a title with the team that originally drafted him, the Dallas Mavericks.

If Kidd were chosen as the best man for the job he would hire Nets former coach Lawrence Frank as the top assistant. Frank was recently fired from his head coaching position with the Detroit Pistons after two seasons with the ball club.

The Nets recently made the move to Brooklyn last season. The team was eliminated in the first round by the no. 5 seeded Chicago Bulls. P.J. Carlesimo served as interim coach after Avery Johnson was fired during the season. The Nets announced Carlesimo would not return as the coach.
