NEW YORK—On Thursday, June 13, the Brooklyn Nets announced Jason Kidd as their new head coach. Kidd is making the immediate transition from a NBA player to a head coach without a season break.

He led the Brooklyn Nets when they were in New Jersey to the NBA Finals multiple times as a player. On Thursday, the Nets introduced Kidd as the 18th coach in team history; going from one of the oldest players in the NBA to now a rookie as a head coach.

Kidd is extremely close to Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams who was sitting front row at the press conference. Kidd played in the NBA for 19 seasons for four different teams eventually becoming a champion in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Brooklyn Nets have great potential moving on with Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez and Gerald Wallace. Kidd can move them on into the right direction and maybe back to the NBA Finals, which they haven’t been to since he led them their in 2003.
