LONDON, ENG—Behind Kobe Bryant's first big game in London, Team USA Basketball advanced past the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament Wednesday.
Kobe Bryant, G.
Bryant led the team with 20 points, all of which came in the second half, and Team USA rolled Australia 119-86.
Deron Williams notched 18 points and Carmelo Anthony scored 17 to lead a total of six Americans in double-digits, including LeBron James who amassed an 11-point, 14-rebound, 11-assist triple-double. James became the first player to have a triple-double in Olympic history.
As for Australia, San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills led all scores with 26 points.
After being down 14 at the half, the Australian were able to play the U.S. to a draw in the third quarter. However, a 35-16 fourth quarter was proof of the difference in the two squads.
The Americans will next face off against Argentina in the semifinals Friday. Team USA has beat Argentina twice in the last month. The two teams met last week to close pool play. That game nearly broke out in a rumble as Carmelo Anthony and Luis Scola began taking cheap shots at each other.
