LOS ANGELES—On Sunday, March 31, Kobe Bryant passed Wilt Chamberlain to become the fourth all-time scoring athlete in NBA history. Kobe pulled up for a jumper from the foul line against the Sacramento Kings Sunday night during the second quarter, which gave Kobe Bryant 31,421 career points passing Wilt Chamberlain’s 31,419 career points.
Bryant scored 19 points and handed 14 assists in the win over the Kings. He now only trails Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928) and Michael Jordan (32,392) to reach number one on the all time scoring list.
Kobe passed his former teammate Shaquille O’Neal for the No. 5 spot on the all time scoring list. He said he isn’t focused on scoring the most points, but that he really wants the sixth championship ring. Bryant is averaging 27 points per game. He is 34 years old and in his 17th season in the NBA moving up the scoring list is more possible than winning a championship for Bryant at this point.
The Los Angeles Lakers are struggling to make the playoffs this season. The Lakers are one win back from the Utah Jazz for the ninth spot in the western conference. The Los Angeles Lakers play against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday who our only a win back from the Lakers.
