UNITED STATES—On Sunday, May 5, Lebron James won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award for his stellar play in the 2013 NBA regular season. Lebron receives his second consecutive MVP award and the fourth in five NBA seasons. Bill Russell is the only other player in NBA history to win four in five seasons. He joins Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain to win at least four MVP awards.

Lebron led the heat to a NBA record of 66-16 including a 27 game win streak. He was also the only player to lead his team in points 26.8 per game, in rebounds eight a game and assists seven a game. He also shot a career high from the field and three-point line with 56 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line. During the season he also went on a record six game stretch with at least 30 points while shooting 60 percent or more from the field.

James posted another 2,000 plus point season making it eight in his career along with being the youngest player to reach 20,000 points in NBA history. He got 120 first place votes except one, which went to Carmelo Anthony. He would have been the unanimous winner of the MVP award. Kevin Durant came in second place, Carmelo in third place, Chris Paul fourth and the Lakers Kobe Bryant in fifth place.

Lebron James and the Miami Heat begin the conference Semi-Finals on Monday against the Chicago Bulls. Miami has home court advantage in the best of seven games series.
