MEMPHIS—On Tuesday, June 11, the Memphis Grizzlies decided to not offer Lionel Hollins a contract renewal. The Grizzlies parted ways with their most successful coach in the franchises history.

Lionel Hollins

Memphis had recently come off their most impressive and longest post season run making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals eventually losing to the Spurs in four games. Hollins contract is set to expire on June 30 and the organization won’t be giving him a new one.

Lional won an NBA title with the Portland Trailblazers in 1977 as a player. Hollins has been with the Memphis Grizzlies in ten of their first 12 seasons. He was first an interim head coach during the 2000 season after replacing Brian Hill in Vancouver. He didn’t receive the job right away as he again served as an interim coach for the Grizzlies during the 2005 season.

He finished with the Grizzlies with a record of 214-201 and 18-17 in the playoffs. He is expected to interview with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets later this week.
