UNITED STATES—On Sunday, March 31 the Louisville Cardinals advanced past the Duke Blue Devils. Louisville won 85-63 after an emotional win for the Cardinals who lost Kevin Ware in the first half due to an open fracture, which brought many of his teammates to tears.

Ware, who attempted to block Tyler Thornton’s 3-pointer, came down wrong and broke his leg in front of the Cardinals bench, the whole team was shocked. Russ Smith and other team members on the floor were holding their hands over their faces after the incident.

The players huddled on the court away from the medical staff that were trying to stabilize Ware. Coach Rick Pitino called the team over as Kevin informed them to go out their and win the game.  He ensured his team that he was going to be okay. Louisville only led by three points going into half time. As soon as they came back on to the court the Cardinals took charge going on a 13-2 run to gain control of the game.

Russ Smith scored 23 points, Peyton Siva scored 16 points and Gorgui Dieng scored 14 points to lead Louisville. Mason Plumlee of the Blue Devils had 17 points, which wasn’t enough to stop the emotionally charged Cardinals. The Cardinals (No. 1 seed) will play Wichita State (No.9 seed) in the Final Four on Saturday, April 6.
