Louisville Wins NCAA Championship

ATLANTA, GA—On Monday, April 8, the Louisville Cardinals won the NCAA Championship against the University of Michigan Wolverines. No. 1 seed Louisville won 82-76 over No. 4 seed the Wolverines.

The Wolverines mostly dominated the first half until the Cardinals went on a run towards the end. The Wolverines went into half only up by one point 38-37 after being up by 11 points. During the first half, National Player of The Year, Trey Burke got into foul trouble and was replaced by Michigan backup point-guard Spike Albrecht who scored 17 points in the first half. Albrecht averaged only 1.8 points per game in the regular season.

 

Luke Hancock of the Louisville Cardinals scored 14 points in the first half to get the Cardinals back into the game. Both Luke Hancock and Spike Albrecht went 4 for 4 from the three-point line. The second half began evenly with both teams scoring. The Cardinals would go up by a couple, but the Wolverines kept it to a one possession game until the last couple minutes.

 

Trey Burke had 17 of his 24 points in the second half. Peyton Siva scored 18 points for the Louisville Cardinals, but it was the play of Luke Hancock who scored 22 points to lead the Cardinals to victory. Spike Albrecht didn’t score one point in the second half after his terrific first half.

 

The Louisville Cardinals (35-5) coached by Rick Pitino won their third national championship This is Pitino’s second national championship, the first coach to receive a championship on two different teams. Luke Hancock was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
