Ohio State Wins Big Ten Tournament
Posted by Luis Cuevas on Mar 17, 2013 - 6:34:13 PM

CHICAGO—On Sunday, the Ohio State Buckeyes became champions of the Big Ten Tournament for the third time in the last four years. Deshaun Thomas scored 17 points and the tenth ranked Buckeyes used their defense to beat No. 22 Wisconsin 50-43, for their conference best fifth tournament title.

Thomas was 6 for 19 from the field, but made important free throws down the stretch. Sam Thompson added eight points for the Buckeyes, who had 13-second chance points compared to four for Wisconsin. Aaron Craft and LaQuinton Ross delivered huge plays for the Buckeyes (26-7).

Trevon Jackson scored 10 points for the Wisconsin Badgers (23-11). Both of the teams were practically even throughout the whole game, but Ohio State was able to take advantage of a cold spell the Badgers fell into. Wisconsin advanced to the final game with a pair of impressive wins over No. 6 Michigan and No. 3 ranked Indiana.

The Buckeyes beat Nebraska and edged No. 8 Michigan State to reach their title game. The Wisconsin Badgers took advantage of their size throughout the game as both Evans and Bruesewitz scored at least 18 points on Thompson. The Badgers used the advantage to get higher percentage shots, but in the end it came down to Thad Matta’s coaching of the Buckeyes.
