Players Suspended From USC Basketball Team

LOS ANGELES—On Monday, March 11, USC basketball starting center Dewayne Dedmon and backup big man James Blasczyk were suspended indefinitely. The pair was suspended after an allegation over the weekend that they were involved in a melee in Spokane, Washington.

Interim Coach Bob Cantu said on Monday that the suspensions were due to breaking an unspecified team rule. It’s not clear if the pair will be able to play in the Pac-12 tournament opener on Wednesday night in Las Vegas.


The Spokane police were investigating a series of fights in the downtown area early Sunday. The Trojans were staying there after a losing 76-51 to Washington State University on Saturday.

 

The Trojans opened their road trip with a 65-67 loss to Washington on Thursday. They were tied for the sixth seed in the conference and ended with a seventh seed in the tournament. Dewayne Dedmon a 23-year-old red shirt junior from Lancaster, California started 29 of the 31 games for USC basketball’s team.

 

Senior James Blasczyk from Friendswood, Texas has played in 21 games for the basketball team. Dewayne Dedmon averages seven points for the ball club and a team leading seven rebounds, and James Blasczyk averages one point and one rebound for USC.
