Sassoon, a stylist and philanthropist, also published three books including an autobiography in 1968 entitled, "Sorry I Kept You Waiting, Madam.”  "A Year of Beauty and Health," written alongside then-wife Beverly came 11 years later and in 1984, he released "Cutting Hair the Vidal Sassoon Way.”

Sassoon’s time as an Angeleno began when he moved to the city in the early 1970s, longing for a chemist to help create a line of beauty products from his hair-care formula, the Associated Press reported.  Sassoon made Los Angeles his home after that.

Sassoon relinquished his stake in his businesses to focus on his philanthropy in the early 80s, among his interests The Boys Clubs of America and the Performing Arts Council of the Music Center of Los Angeles, supported through the Vidal Sassoon Foundation, according to reports from AP, and later began work with Hurricane Katrina post-disaster charities.
