AMPAS Extends Nomination Voting Deadline
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Jan 3, 2013 - 6:22:28 AM

BEVERLY HILLS—The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended its deadline for members to vote for Oscar nominations until Friday, January 4 until 5 p.m. PST.  The original date for voting to end was Thursday, January 3 at 5 p.m. PST.  This year the members have the option of casting their vote either online or through paper ballot.   Votes not received before the deadline will not be counted.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences consists of more than 6,000 members that work in the cinema arena.

“By extending the voting deadline we are providing every opportunity available to make the transition to online balloting as smooth as possible,” said Ric Robertson, Academy COO. “We’re grateful to our global membership for joining us in this process.”

To ensure the security and to accommodate the extension, the online voting system is expected to be closed for two hours on Thursday, January 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. PST.   The online voting system will re-open at 7 p.m. PST January 3 and remain open until Friday at 5 p.m.  This is the first year members have been allowed to cast their ballots online. Voting resources are available to all members, including voting stations in Los Angeles, New York and London with 24-hour support available through a call center.

Nominations and final awards will be counted and verified by Pricewaterhouse Coopers to protect all aspects of the balloting process for security purposes. For most of the categories PwC will tally the ballots using the preferential voting system.   The 85th Annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 live on ABC at 5:30 p.m. PST and will be handed out from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.

Oscar nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 10 live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre at 5:30 a.m. PST.
