BHPD Investigate First Local Murder Since '10

BEVERLY HILLS—On Wednesday, October 26, the Beverly Hills Police Department related that an investigation is underway into the suspected local murder of a 58-year-old woman. A person of interest was still in custody as of the afternoon of October 27.

A preliminary investigation conducted by police detectives and crime scene investigators at a home on the 100 block of North Hamilton Drive revealed that the suspected murderer likely knew the victim, a BHPD news release states. She has been identified as Beverly Hills resident Cathy Carrasco-Zanini.

A person of interest identified as 54-year-old James Grzeslo was thereafter arrested at 2:08 p.m., booking details indicate. He was arrested at a nearby office building and charged with 187 PC-Homicide and booked into Beverly Hills Jail at 6:18 p.m. Grzeslo's bail has been set at $1 million. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at the Beverly Hills Courthouse on October 28.

BHPD has further related that there are currently no other outstanding suspects.

Carrasco-Zanini's body was found by police at the home in question at about 1:48 p.m. Officers had visited the residence on that date to conduct a welfare check, but instead found Carrasco-Zanini's body, the "apparent victim of a homicide." Lt. Mark Rosen told Canyon News that police had been alerted to the home after having received a call regarding suspicious circumstances there.

If the woman's death is unequivocally ruled by police to be the result of murder, it would mark the first such incident to take place in the City of Beverly Hills since the fatal shooting of publicist Ronni Chasen in November 2010 during a random robbery.
