Beverly Gardens Park Groundbreaking Begins
Posted by Melissa Simon on Oct 8, 2013 - 3:01:31 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—Groundbreaking for the Beverly Gardens Park will begin on Sunday, October 13, as part of a restoration project.

The restoration project, which has been spearheaded by the Friends of Beverly Gardens Park, is an effort to restore the park to its true beauty and splendor, according to the website.

The project will be restoring a 1.9-mile stretch of gardens spanning the length of the city that separates the commercial district from the residential neighborhoods and acts as the public façade along Santa Monica Boulevard. The stretch goes from Beverly Drive to Canon Drive.

Back in August, the Beverly Hills city council approved $100,000 to restore the lily pond at the park, which was first built in 1906. The restoration has a projected completion date of January 20, 2014.

Other things that the Friends of Beverly Gardens Park is looking to restore or update include the following:

· The circular fountain

· New plants at the water features

· Retain the photo area

· Bollard lighting along the paths

· Keep existing trees in place

· Protect the Moreton Bay Fig Tree

· Relocate a Mediterranean fan palm to the Palm Garden

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in front of the Beverly Hills sign at the Beverly Gardens Park on Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the city’s website.
