BEVERLY HILLS—The Center for Radiation Therapy in Beverly Hills has made its mark as a facility housing medical breakthroughs and innovative treatments that could reportedly revolutionize the world of medicine.  It is the first cancer treatment center in the state of California to begin treating patients with state-of-the art RapidArc™ Radiotherapy. 

Varian Medical Systems, the world’s leading developer of devices that treat cancer and similar diseases, developed RapidArc™ with the hope of speeding up radiation therapies.  In fact, RapidArc™ not only shortens the length of time that a cancer patient is exposed to radiation by up to eight times, but its advanced precision also prevents radioactive harm to healthy tissues.

“It was just ten years ago that radiation treatments could last as long as forty minutes, and now, that’s gone down to twenty,” said Meryl Ginsberg, spokesperson for Varian Medical Systems.  “But with RapidArc, we are able to deliver treatment in two minutes, without any sacrifice in accuracy or effectiveness.”

Its efficiency and effectiveness have made RapidArc™ a near must-have in the realm of cancer therapy.  After its approval by the Food and Drug Administration in January of this year, Ginsberg noted that Varian received 60 orders, worldwide, with numbers still rising.

Dr. Henry Yampolsky, radiation oncologist at the center, was delighted with the addition of the new technology and spoke of its benefits after treating a 77-year-old man with a malignant brain tumor – the first patient to receive a series of RapidArc™ treatment at the center. 

According to Dr. Yampolsky, the Beverly Hills Center for Radiation Therapy is a “modern, advanced center,” offering “state-of-the-art” service to its patients.  However, he admits that RapicArc™ is “a new step in sophistication for radiation,” and is a positive addition to the facility.
