BH Encouraging Cyclists With Bike Routes
Posted by Sebastian Sarti on Jun 16, 2013 - 12:54:34 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—During the week of June 24, the City of Beverly Hills will begin work on two new bike routes. The new bike routes are part of a one-year pilot project by the city and the new routes will be located on North Crescent Drive and Burton Way.

The project will take approximately eight to 10 days and will involve repainting the roads’ stripes and placing additional signs so as to create designated routes for cyclists.

The Beverly Hills City Council approved the new bike route project in November of last year. The hopes of this project is to increase cyclist safety and increase cyclist use of the road. Previous programs have shown that designating a bike route leads to these desired results.

The city will be monitoring the new bike routes to study the effect it has on traffic and cyclist use and safety. Beverly Hills will be installing bike racks throughout the business district to make bike storage simpler.

On North Crescent Drive, between Wilshire and Sunset Boulevards, the city will be adding a striped bike lane and markings that emphasizes that bicyclists and drivers share the road. Burton Way will have striped bike lanes added to both sides between North Crescent Drive and the east city limits.
