After Mayor William Brien performed the official ribbon cutting at noon, the event started at 5:00 p.m. inviting guests to explore “The Friends of the Library Enchanted Woods,” a room in the library that features a fairy and folk tale collection, along with children book art from the 1800s and 1900s.
Additionally, showcased was the library’s new theatre, a specifically designed storytelling area, a playroom with books and toys made for young families, two enclosed study rooms, computers, a reception area and plenty of places to read.
Patrons were able to enjoy seasonal crafts, tours, storytelling, balloon artists, magician presentation, juggling lessons, a color book giveaway and the announcement of bookmark contest winners. Those winners were allocated in the categories of preschool, kindergarten through second grade, third through sixth grades, and seventh through twelfth grades. The new children’s library will be decorated with large-sized bookmarks awarded to winners.
