"Bling Ring" Suspect Pleads No Contest
Posted by Michael Lambrose on Oct 23, 2012 - 12:58:43 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—Daina Tomayo, 22, was sentenced on Friday, October 19 to three years probation, and 60 days of Caltrans by Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler.

Tomayo pleaded no contest to burglary in her involvement in the 2009 “Bling Ring” burglary of Lindsay Lohan in 2009.  Tomayo was indicted on these charges in 2010.  As a part of her plea agreement, the Los Angeles District Attorney dropped charges of conspiracy to commit burglary and receiving stolen property.  Tomayo is still due in court on November 8 for a restitution hearing.

The DA alleges that the “Bling Ring” consisted of five individuals responsible for the burglary of the homes of several celebrities including Orlando Bloom, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox between September 2008 and August 2009.  The group is suspected of stealing more than $3 million in jewelry, designer clothes and accessories.

Tomayo’s sentencing came after Nicholas Prugo’s, the suspected ringleader, plea of no contest on March 2.  In return for other felony charges being dropped, Prugo was obligated to testify in the trials of the other members of the “Bling Ring.”

Only two members of the “Bling Ring” have yet to go to trial.  Courtney Leigh Ames, 21, and Roy Lopez Jr., 30, are facing charges of first-degree residential burglary, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.  They are both due in court November 8 for a pretrial hearing.
