The Beverly Hills Police Department took Ivy Ewells, 28, and Corandin Drake, 27, into custody after the duo tried to get away with burglarizing a 2013 Escalade on the 400 block of North Beverly Drive. According to Sergeant Max Subin, the two suspects were witnessed by undercover surveillance officers who were in the midst of a crime suppression operation.

Ewells managed to grab an iPad out of the vehicle before returning to Drake, who was waiting for him in a nearby car. BHPD officers surrounded the two suspects and took them into custody, where they discovered other stolen property in their getaway car. A search warrant was later executed at a residence in Hawthorne, according to the press release from the BHPD.

There, officers found “hundreds of pieces of evidences from prior crimes,” states the press release. In an email to Canyon News Sgt. Subin indicated that investigators are continuing to discover what items belonged to their rightful owners.

Drake was released from custody on January 7 for insufficient evidence pertaining to the crime, according the Los Angeles Sheriff's Inmate Information Center. Ewells is still being held on $350,000 bail. He is due back in court on January 22.
