City Council To Review Metro Extension
Posted by Eunice Kim on Feb 12, 2014 - 2:08:53 AM

BEVERLY HILLS — The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will be holding two public meetings on Thursday, February 13 regarding the construction of the three-station Metro Purple Line extension. As a part of this project, Metro will construct the Section 1 terminus station at the intersection of Wilshire and La Cienega Boulevards, an effort which will begin by relocating utilities to prepare for construction of the station box.

Because the project includes constructing a station in Beverly Hills, Metro will be submitting requests which will be reviewed by the Beverly Hills City Council in the upcoming months, these requests include street use permits and a pending agreement for the city to coordinate construction activities.

The meeting on February 13 is part of the reviewing process and an opportunity for City Council to hear the community’s opinion on the construction and its potential impacts.

The benefits of the Purple Line Extension Program include a decrease in automobile pollution, an increase in jobs and greater ease in travel.

“The greatest employment growth is expected to occur around the Wilshire/Fairfax, Westwood/UCLA, and Wilshire/Rodeo Station locations,” according to Metro’s Environmental Impact Report.

Possible adverse effects include a physical divide of an already established community, disruption of surrounding land development and conflicts with any regional land use policies.

The first meeting will be held at 12:15 p.m. at 8383 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 300. Soft drinks will be provided. The second meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m. at the La Cienega Community Center located at 8400 Gregory Way. Soft drinks and light refreshments will be provided, and parking will be available across the street at the La Cienega Tennis Center, located at 321 S. La Cienega Boulevard. The meeting will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. City staff will be available to record comments at both meetings.
