Counseling Center May Need To Relocate
Posted by Melissa Simon on Oct 8, 2013 - 3:13:41 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—At the Beverly Hills City Council meeting on Wednesday, October 2, members learned that the Maple Counseling Center might have to relocate due to the inability to negotiate a new lease.

The lease on the counseling center, which is located at 9701 Wilshire Boulevard, is up in early 2014 and Marcy Kaplan, chief executive officer of the Maple Counseling Center, told the council and mayor that they are welcoming new ideas for alternate space options.

“We’ve looked at alternative locations in Beverly Hills with no success, nothing identified that affordable,” Kaplan said at the meeting. “In all likelihood we need to leave Beverly Hills and be in a Beverly Hills adjacent community,” she added.

The new space for the center would need to be at least 10,000 square feet, according to Kaplan.

Should the center end up vacating their current location, Kaplan said the services provided would not change.

“The services we offer are of critical importance to our community and are not easy to access these days in the for-profit retail sector or through public services that are available due to many public funding cuts,” she said.

The Maple Counseling Center is a non-profit organization that began in 1969 “to provide low cost comprehensive health services to individuals, couples, families and groups throughout Los Angeles County, and to provide training for interns and counselors who are working towards licensure in the mental health field,” according to the site.
