How To Stay Prepared For Emergencies
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Sep 7, 2012 - 2:16:43 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—The City will work to increase public awareness in order to ensure residents are prepared for disasters as September is National Preparedness Month.

"National Preparedness Month is a nationwide campaign held each September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. The goal is to raise public awareness and inspire a 'call to action' by community members to take the necessary steps to protect the life, property and safety of themselves, family members, neighbors and co-workers," states the official press release.

In order to be fully prepared for emergencies, residents are urged to store products that will keep them going for several days in case city services are overwhelmed due to a major disaster.

To get ready, it is advised to make a kit, make a plan and to remain informed. A kit will require supplies to be store in the home and car with items such as water, a first aid kit, battery powered flashlights, extra batteries and a cell phone battery pack charger.

Establishing a plan is also essential for your family's safety. Distinguish where you will meet in case of an emergency and practice it as well. Sign up for the city's emergency telephone notification system at www.beverlyhills.org/emergencynotification.

For additional information go to www.beverlyhills.org or call (310) 285-1025.
