BEVERLY HILLS—The Jackson Estate racked up nearly one million dollars from an auction of Michael Jackson’s possessions last Saturday. Jackson, who passed away two years ago in June, rented the Holmby Hills house which held these items. Jackson was living there with his three children (Michael Joseph Jr., Paris, and Prince Michael II) until his death. A source within Julien's Auctions, the auction company which sold the items, informed Canyon News about the sale. Among the items sold were a rug beneath the late pop star’s bed, furniture, a chalkboard with a written message to Michael from his children, and other items. The top range of estimates for the sale was $400,000 but Darren Julien, president of Julien's Auctions, has said the unconfirmed total may be almost $1 million. Over 500 items were sold at the event, though several key furnishings were taken off the auction block. After a personal request from Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, Julien agreed to withhold the late artist’s death bed from the sale. The headboard Michael slept under many nights was also withheld by request of the family.
According to a press release from the auction, "the Victorian Revival style bedroom suite including an armoire inscribed by Michael Jackson himself with the inspirational message “Train, Perfection, March April Full Out May sold for $25,075." Venus Blinding Cupid, an oil painting on canvas after Titian (Tiziano Vecellio, Italian 1488-1576) sold for $11,250.
Julien’s Auctions also handled the sale of items from Jackson’s Neverland Ranch in 2009. Past sales also include Jackson’s "Thriller" jacket, which sold for about $1.8 million. The Holmby Hills Estate of 100 North Carolwood Drive, where Jackson lived, did not accommodate the live auction; it was held instead at Julien’s Auctions located at 9665 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 150.
