BEVERLY HILLS—A group of moms in Beverly Hills claim that using marijuana helps them with their parenting and are alleging that drugs and parenting can mix.
The individuals reportedly began using marijuana to help with chronic pains and some used it to help them through their cancer. After using it for so long, they allegedly realized it made them feel better and as a result made them better parents.

Many of the moms claim that the marijuana use helps them to be “in the moment” and stop worrying about daily problems. Another mom compares it to the use of Valium by housewives in the 1960s, saying that marijuana helps them to “get through the day.”
Some supporters allege that a parent who is stressed out or depressed will not be a very good caretaker to their child and if marijuana helps them to feel better and in turn make them better parents, then perhaps the use is justified. Those who oppose using the drug say that this is not a way for parents to cope with the everyday anxiety and stress that comes from daily living.
Other issues that have arisen from those who are not in favor of using marijuana while parenting, say that it is dangerous for the child to be around. Children who have accidentally ingested marijuana have been reported to often go into a coma. The issue of second-hand smoke also arises. Those in opposition also say that the children of those using marijuana may be more likely to use the drug themselves.
The “Marijuana Moms” have a Facebook, Twitter, and official website and they are self-proclaimed internationally based. They are a non-profit organization who claim to be “raising awareness, promoting education, and creating discussion about the Cannabis plant.”
