New Communications System In Beverly Hills
Posted by Sebastian Sarti on Jun 2, 2013 - 4:02:01 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—The Beverly Hills Police department along with the Beverly Hills Fire Department, have completed the implementation of a highly advanced radio communications system for the local and regional areas during any disaster or emergencies.

The new communications system is to serve as a back-up during emergencies and disasters as both cell phones and land lines can become unavailable during catastrophes. The new system will give the Beverly Hills Police and Fire departments a reliable method to communicate with other departments in the case of emergencies. This will increase the departments’ efficacy and safety.

The radio communications upgrades were partially funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security by a grant that Los Angeles County administered.

Beverly Hills’ new system places them at the forefront in the regional network, Interagency Communications Interoperability System (ICIS) which includes Glendale, Culver City, Pasadena, Burbank, Pomona, and Montebello. The entire ICIS network is upgrading to the new communications system standard of P25. The new system meets nationwide standards for public safety communications systems. It uses the latest technology to use existing radio frequencies.

With the completion of the new system, Beverly Hills joins Pasadena as the only two cities in the ICIS network that have completed upgrading their communications system to P25. The remaining ICIS cities are all currently in the process of updating their systems.
