BEVERLY HILLS—A plastic surgeon from Sherman Oaks was arrested on Thursday, August 2, for allegedly taping female patients as they undressed during post-operative examinations in his office near the Beverly Center.
According to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, 42-year-old Dr. Lance Everett Wyatt had a $50,000 arrest warrant issued against him after charges were placed on Wednesday.
Reports state that Wyatt had hidden cameras that filmed two women undressing and he inappropriately touched one of the patients by justifying it as part of the medical procedure. It is stated that one of his female patients noticed the camera inside his office and gave it to the police as evidence on August 4, 2011. Investigators of the Medical Board of California fear there could be more victims.
“Patients deserve to feel safe and secure while in the care of their physician,” City Attorney Carmen Trutanich said. “Our charges allege that Dr. Wyatt violated that sacred trust and he should be held accountable.”
He has been charged with six misdemeanor counts, four of which are due to surreptitious filming, one count for battery and another for sexual battery. Wyatt could face up to two years in county jail along with a lifetime registration as a sex offender if he is found guilty in court.
As stated on Wyatt's official website, he is a UCLA graduate who worked as a Fellow at Harvard Medical School and authored six textbook chapters. He was even named one of the 50 leaders of Tomorrow by EBONY Magazine. He has been featured on TV shows such as "Doctors" and ABC's "20/20" with Barbara Walters.
He posted his $50,000 bail and was released. His arraignment is scheduled for August 23.
