Police Seek Identity Of Haggler Bandit
Posted by Damian Kelly on Sep 5, 2012 - 3:07:43 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—Local police and the FBI are on the hunt for an unidentified male that has been linked to three bank robberies and two attempted bank robberies in the last week.  In addition to a robbery in Beverly Hills, the robber has also struck at banks in Pasadena and Monrovia.

According to an FBI alert, he has been dubbed the “Haggler Bandit” because victim tellers have described him as having “haggled” to some extent over the amount of money he expected to receive.  Authorities describe the suspect as a black male between 5’8’’ and 6’ tall, weighing between 150-170 lbs and anywhere from in his 20s to 40 years of age.

The bank robber has been linked to an August 22 robbery at Citibank, 161 West California in Pasadena, an attempted August 30 robbery at Wells Fargo, 655 N. Fair Oaks in Pasadena and a same day robbery at Chase, 690 W. Huntington in Monrovia.  His crime spree continued on August 31 when the robber attempted to rob a Chase branch at 100 N. La Cienega in Beverly Hills and then robbed a Citibank at 300 S. Fairfax in Hollywood.  While most robberies have seen the man pass a note to the victim teller, the attempted robbery on August 31 saw the suspect verbally threaten a weapon.

The Pasadena, Monrovia, and Los Angeles Police Departments are investigating the case.  Anyone with information about the identity of the Haggler Bandit should contact one of the departments or dial 911.  In southern California, the FBI can be reached 24 hours a day at (888) 226-8443.  Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact LA Crime Stoppers by dialing (800) 222-8477 or by texting the letters TIPLA plus the tip to CRIMES (274637).  The website also may be used.
