Praising The Ladies In The Hills
Posted by Tommy Garrett on Jul 24, 2011 - 11:16:46 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—This week in the hills, veteran actresses Constance Towers and Beverly Washburn are featured in national magazines.

Towers is one of city’s most respected philanthropists and socialites who is the object of the affections of millions of fans. They watch her and love her as the evil billionaire villainess Helena Cassadine on ABC’s mega hit drama “General Hospital.” Washburn is a former child star who has worked with everyone from Jimmy Stewart to Kirk Douglas to the hound Old Yeller. She is
discussed by a writer who features her in an upcoming magazine feature. And “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” Kristolyn Lloyd will be appearing at the Hollywood Bowl.

When Constance Tower is not taking care of her beautiful family, throwing parties, traveling or volunteering on the board of The Blue Ribbon Panel, which is an organization that has aided thousands of inner city underprivileged youth who would never have an opportunity to enjoy the best in the arts, she is in Hollywood at ABC Studios portraying the woman millions of “General Hospital” viewers love to hate. Playing a villain is very exciting for Constance, who says, “I sometimes have to pinch myself to convince myself that so many people love the dastardly Helena. They see her as a woman who does whatever she has to do in order to protect her family.”

Protecting the Cassadines is something that new "GH" head writer Garin Wolf tells only ABC Soaps In Depth, which is on stands now around the country. Wolf is someone Towers admires so much. “I am so happy that Garin is our head writer. He has oftentimes given Helena her best dialogue and storylines. He’s a brilliant and talented man. ‘General Hospital’ has always had talented writers and he is no exception,” she said. Towers has high praise for Soaps In Depth as well. “I am going out to Whole Foods this weekend and pick up ABC Soaps In Depth to read the wonderful interview with our new head writer, Tommy. This magazine is always filled with breaking news and they are so wonderful to work with. I enjoy the daytime soap press and its journalists so much. They work so hard to keep this genre alive. Where would any of us be without them all?” concluded Towers.

The current issue of ABC Soaps In Depth has a great section this week highlighting the top 10 romances in"‘All My Children’s” storied history! “All My Children” ends in September on ABC, but it will continue to air on the Internet. This exciting issue I had a sneak preview of, and the talented editor in chief Dawn Owens and her top-notch team really went all out this week. Pick up your copy now!

“B&B’s” beautiful actress Kristolyn Lloyd, who portrays Dayzee, will star alongside Harvey Fierstein, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Drew Carey, Corbin Bleu, Nick Jonas and John Stamos in “Hairspray” for a three-day run at The Hollywood Bowl. Kristolyn appears as one of “The Dynamites” on August 5, 6 and 7. For more information and tickets, call 323-850-2000 or visit hollywoodbowl.com. The star is one of singer/actress Beyonce’s best friends. Kristolyn is just as beautiful and talented as her famous childhood friend.

Journalist Colete Morlock and her co-writer Lawrence (Larry) Fultz, Jr. recently interviewed my dear friend Beverly Washburn for Scarlet: The Film Magazine, which is currently available. Morlock tells Canyon News, “Larry’s forte has been in the sci-fi and horror genres and the first part of the article deals with Beverly’s appearances with George Reeves, Lon Chaney, Jr. and Dabbs Greer in ‘Superman and the Mole Men,’ ‘Spider Baby,’ and the ‘Science Fiction Theater’ episode, ‘The Strange People at Pecos’ respectively. I focused on some of her television projects like ‘The Loretta Young Show,’ ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Murder, She Wrote,’ ‘Leave It to Beaver,’ and ‘The Jack Benny Show.’ Since Loretta Young had been a favorite of mine, I asked Beverly what it was like to work with her. To my delight, she painted a picture of what Ms. Young was like on the set and off, and their special friendship was quite evident.”

“When I read Beverly’s book, ‘Reel Tears,’ I was so impressed with the body of work she had done. I loved how she shared things about show business so that ordinary people like me would gain a better understanding of how the business works as well as what it was really like growing up within show business,” said Colete. “Beverly considers herself to be quite blessed in that she's had so many good experiences with actors and actresses. She shared some of these with me about Patty Duke, Karl Malden, Fess Parker, Dorothy McGuire, and even the original Mouseketeers. Another thing that truly impressed me about Beverly Washburn is how grounded and down-to-earth she has remained throughout her life."

“She credited her parents for instilling that into her and making sure that show business didn't go to her head. I felt so comfortable speaking with her; it was as if I had known her my whole life. I also admire her love of animals and the article did mention two of her favorite charities. She has been working on a revised version of her book which will include more stories and photos from her collection. I was honored to be a part of the article because Beverly is such an extraordinary person and a fine actress. I hope that we see her for years to come.”

Beverly’s next project is a film she and I will both star in titled “December Dilemma,” which is due out around the holiday season. The film is by writer, director and producer Adam Reeves. You can learn more about it at DecemberDilemma.com.
