Rally Against Charles And David Koch

BEVERLY HILLS—Over 100 protesters took to the streets Friday, May 24 to rally against Charles and David Koch purchasing Tribune’s newspapers. Tribune’s newspapers disperse eight newspapers, including the L.A. Times, The Baltimore Sun, The Chicago Tribune,
The Orlando Sentinel, and The Hartford Courant.

In Baltimore, a petition with over 6,500 signatures was turned in, protesting the change. Another petition like Baltimore’s was turned in to the L.A. Times with over 250,000 signatures as well.

Both Charles and David Koch are billionaire industrialists who support libertarian causes. The Tribune’s newspapers are worth $623 million and the Koch’s would receive $115 billion dollars in revenue each year.

Most of the newspapers associated with Tribune are the top ten read papers. Readers fear what the change could mean. One concern is that Charles and David Koch will make the newspaper sway more to the conservative side since they have spoken before about their conservative voice not being present in the newspapers. Others have also referred to the Koch’s political functions as laissez-fair in nature and fear that the population’s best interest may not be met in its entirety.

According to sources, nothing is finalized and it is too soon to make any final statements about the purchase of Tribune’s newspapers.
