According to a press release by the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD), the rookie patrol officers did not expect to find an unconscious 45-year-old man in full cardiac arrest when responding to a routine traffic collision.
They immediately removed the victim from his vehicle and began performing CPR, until they were able to “shock” the victim back to life with an automated external defibrillator (AED).
BHPD Public Information Officer Lieutenant Hoshino told Canyon News the male victim's medical condition was the cause of the vehicle collision in an email. Although the police department does not maintain statistics, Lieutenant Hoshino said "it is not a common occurrence" for officers to administer AEDs.
