Storeowner Arrested For Stolen Ring
Posted by Damian Kelly on Dec 19, 2011 - 1:53:54 PM

BEVERLY HILLSLocal resident Ramin Cohan has been arrested for receiving a stolen 1985 Super Bowl ring belonging to former Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Raiders wide receiver Willie Gault. The ring, which was stolen from Gault’s Encino home in a residential burglary on November 8, was recovered after the Los Angeles Police Department West Valley Burglary and Property Crimes Unit went to Cohan’s Ramco Jewelry store located at 706 South Broadway in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 15.

According to an LAPD news release, Cohan, 46, was subsequently arrested and booked at the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys for receiving stolen property, a violation of section 496 of the Penal Code. At the time of his arrest, Cohan’s bail was set at $20,000. During the visit to Cohan’s store, which is located within the Jewelry Mart District in L.A., five stolen watches and a wedding ring were also recovered by law enforcement. West Valley Burglary detectives (whose jurisdiction includes Encino) traced Gault’s ring to Cohan’s store after being contacted by a source who deals in sports memorabilia who told them that the Super Bowl ring had been seen at Cohan’s store.

Gault, 51, played 11 seasons in the NFL and was a member of the Bear’s 1985 Super Bowl winning team. When he retired from the game of football in 1993, he finished his career with 333 receptions, 6,635 receiving yards and caught 44 touchdowns, according to the NFL’s website.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to call LAPD West Valley Detective William Dunn at (818) 374-7730. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to (877) 527-3247. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone. All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to lapdonline.org, click on "Webtips" and follow the prompts.
