BEVERLY HILLS—On Wednesday, December 21, Beverly Hills police arrested two Beverly Hills High School students and later booked them on suspicion of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana after a thorough early morning search of the campus.

At about 10:15 a.m., officers from the Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and county police departments, as well as employees from the Beverly Hills Unified School District, conducted a sweep of the 20-acre school. They utilized six drug detection dogs for a more efficient search, according to BHPD spokesperson Sgt. Renato Moreno.
The
students were not identified by police because they are minors and due to
school privacy policy. Published
reports indicate that after their arrest they were released to an adult guardian.
Though the two students are scheduled to appear at the Inglewood court,
the exact date and time of their appearance was not released.
Moreno said, "It is the Beverly Hills Police Department’s goal to assist in recovering any dangerous narcotics from the Beverly Hills High School campus in order to help discourage drug use and promote an environment that fosters safety and learning."
California Health and Safety Code Section 11357 states that any person under 18 years of age found with up to an ounce of marijuana on any K-12 school during instruction or school-related programs is guilty of a misdemeanor. After a first offense, the punishment is a fine of no more than $250. A second offense includes a fine of no more than $500 and 10 days at a detention facility.
Also, a student found to be in the possession of a controlled substance on school grounds can be suspended or expelled, according to California Education Code 48900(s).
