BEVERLY HILLS—On Saturday, January 26, United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor discussed her new book, “My Beloved World” at the Saban Theatre.
Released on January 23, 2013, the book describes her difficult childhood in the
Bronx and the transition she made from where she was to where she stands today. It tells the real life tale of accomplishing the “American Dream,” from growing up in a housing project with type 1 diabetes as a child, to attending Ivy League schools like
Princeton and Yale Law. The book also discusses her experience working for the New York District Attorney’s Office and serving the bench. She was the third woman to serve the Supreme Court Bench, and the first
Latina. She was also the first
Latina to win
Princeton’s Pyne Prize, one that honors seniors who have “most clearly manifested excellent scholarship, strength of character, and effective leadership,” according to the school’s website.

Her New York Times best seller came with the ticket price of $45 at
Beverly Hills’ Saban Theatre located at
8440 Wilshire Boulevard. Doors opened at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and the presentation began at 2:00 p.m.
Actress and philanthropist Eva Longoria accompanied the Justice at the event hosted by Writers Bloc. Though mostly recognized for roles in film and television, Longoria created a foundation that “helps Latinas build futures through education and entrepreneurship,” according to the foundation’s official site.
