Posted by LaDale Anderson and Karem Muksed on Jul 23, 2014 - 3:12:15 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—On July 17, Alonzo Harris, 54, a convicted felon with a long criminal record was sentenced to 620 years to life in prison for a string of violent takeover robberies around Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. His criminal record dates back to more than 3 decades.

According to a press release from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Deputy District Attorney Jack Garden with the Crimes Against Peace Officers Section prosecuted the case and noted the suspect “was extremely violent.”

In September 2013, Harris was convicted of 37 counts, including 14 takeover robberies at stores and markets during a nine-month time frame starting in October 2007. The suspect used a gun during each robbery, and on multiple occasions pistol whipped some of the victims.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen A. Marcus said, "You have someone who's basically a crime machine," and he also added, “His entire life has been filled with crime.”

Harris sexually assaulted a female worker on December 23, 2007, during the takeover robbery at a grocery store. The suspect also known as Felton Bradford, was taken into custody by authorities with a second suspect after they attempted to rob Lawry’s The Prime Rib restaurant on La Cienega Boulevard in Beverly Hills on July 11, 2008.

The second suspect, Floyd Nelson, 54, and Harris fled the establishment after their failure to get the chef at the restaurant to open the safe. Nelson was convicted by the same jury on three counts connected to the Lawry attempted robbery. He was sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison. The case was investigated by the Beverly Hills Police Department and Los Angeles Police Department.
