BEVERLY HILLS—The city of Beverly Hills would like to remind residents that this is the last week to sign a pledge for its “Resolve 2 B Ready” disaster preparedness campaign. The drive, created in part with FEMA for National Preparedness Month, aims to encourage people to be better equipped and ready for a disaster using technology and some forward thinking.

Among the various tidbits of advice that are given, residents are encouraged to invest in an extra power source for cell phones, as well as battery-powered or hand-cranked radios for the instance of a power outage, which can be used to listen to the city's radio station on 1500 AM.

Important documents should be stored on a secured flash drive and placed in emergency kits for handy availability. If someone needs to be contacted, designating an In Case of Emergency (ICE) contact can be used by emergency responders to quickly call that person.

Residents can also sign up for the city's mass communication system, through the Beverly Hills city website, allowing them to receive emergency updates to their cell phones. To receive emergency text alerts, residents can also text the word BEVHILLS to 888777.

To sign up for the pledge, visit www.beverlyhills.org/pledge. In addition, they can also visit the official FEMA website to download Family Emergency Plan templates.
