Fey, Poehler To Co-Host Golden Globes
Posted by Amanda Macke on Oct 16, 2013 - 8:47:20 PM

BEVERLY HILLS—Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will return to host the 2014 and 2015 Golden Globe award shows. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced on Tuesday, October 15, Tina Fey of "30 Rock" and Amy Poehler of "Parks and Recreation" would return to co-host the next two Golden Globe Award shows. Fey and Poehler will follow suit of comedian Ricky Gervais, who hosted the award show three years in a row from 2010 to 2012.

“It’s wonderful news,” said HFPA president Theo Kingma on their website. “They have always been our first choice as hosts and we’re delighted they are back for the next two years.”

The female comedic duo gave the NBC network a major ratings boost when they hosted the 70th Golden Globe Awards earlier this year. According to Nielsen, the comedians attracted the show’s highest ratings in six years with 19.7 million total viewers, including a 28 percent increase in viewers between the ages of 18 and 49.

Besides hosting the Golden Globes together, Fey and Poehler have a long history of working together from the skits on "Saturday Night Live" and the movies "Mean Girls" and "Baby Mama."

Their close personal relationship with one another translated to on-screen chemistry as they pulled playful pranks and jokes on the audience of the at last year's Golden Globes ceremony. Hilarious moments include Poehler and Fey impersonating actors from the nominated film “Dog President” and encouraging viewers at home to play a drinking game throughout the show.

When asked about the rules of the game on the red carpet, Tina responded, “The rules are whatever you want them to be. If someone cries during a speech, you take a drink. If someone’s boob falls out of their dress, you take a drink,” with Poehler adding, “and frankly if you had a tough week, you take a drink.”

Here are a few highlights from the co-hosts’ opening monologue, courtesy of NBC video clips:

“We want to assure you we have no intention of being edgy or offensive tonight because as Ricky [Gervais] learned the hard way, when you run afoul of the Hollywood Foreign Press, they make you host the show two more times.” ”“ Amy Poehler

“Ben Affleck is here, nominated for his movie "Argo." Ben’s first two movies took place in Boston, but he moved this one to Iran because he wanted to film somewhere that is friendlier to outsiders.” ”“Tina Fey

“I haven’t been really following the controversy over "Zero Dark Thirty," but when it comes to torture, I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron” ”“Amy Poehler

The 71st annual Golden Globe Awards will be broadcasted by NBC on Sunday, January 12, 2014.
