Arsonists Sought in Brentwood Blaze
Posted by Rosana Clarkson on Nov 16, 2011 - 11:03:38 PM

BRENTWOOD—On November 10, a massive fire occurred at a large townhome development in Brentwood, causing multiple families to be displaced, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

L.A.F.D. firefighters arrived at the location on 12315 West Gorham Avenue at about 3:37 a.m. in the normally peaceful neighborhood, where the six-unit, wood-framed building—still in the construction process—was found engulfed in flames.

Five nearby buildings were evacuated, two of which were affected by the severe fire. Up to 10 families were forced to retreat from the two residences.

Assisted by the Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Department and the City’s General Services Department, the displaced residents were offered temporary housing assistance at the Barrington Recreation Center.  However, the shelter proved not necessary as the evacuees were able to receive help from friends and relatives in the area.   The local Red Cross was also available at the site of the fire to offer other forms of emergency assistance.

L.A.F.D. crews succeeded in quelling the flames in one hour and 39 minutes. No injuries were reported in the incident.

An investigation revealed that arson may be the cause of the residential blaze.  Members of the L.A.F.D. Arson Counter-Terrorism Section—including Commander Battalion Chief Michael Greenup—and Los Angeles Council Member Bill Rosendahl, announced that a $50,000 reward is available to anyone with information regarding the individuals responsible for the apparent arson attack. Tipsters are urged to call 213-893-9850 or to visit lafdarson@lacity.org.
