Under the command of Assistant Chief Kwame Cooper, 214 firefighters arrived by foot and by helicopter to battle the 25-story building fire. In 45 minutes, firefighters were able to knock down the blaze and isolate the flames to unit 386, a two-bedroom apartment on the 11th floor. The entire residential fire was completely extinguished in 71 minutes.
One pet dog perished in the flames and seven residents were assessed for smoke exposure by Fire Department Medics on scene. Two civilians declined transport, and the remaining five were taken to the hospital by ambulance, including one 2-year-old child in critical condition. The child and accompanying adult from the 23rd floor were briefly taken to the roof and were among residents who failed to appropriately respond to alarms and needed assistance in evacuation.

A total of 347 Los Angeles Firefighters rotated in teams to provide continuous service to the building's estimated 700 residents. Community Emergency Response Team volunteers helped support the scores of firefighters as they assisted pet evacuation and assessed civilians' safety and health concerns for more than 55 hours.
