BRENTWOOD—Los Angeles City Council member, Bill Rosendahl, released an open letter informing the public of his cancer diagnosis. The cancer is located in Rosendahl’s pelvic area and is painful, writes Rosendahl in the letter. The pain has kept Rosendahl away from work; however, Rosendahl states that his doctors are confident that they will be able to control the pain, enabling Rosendahl to return to work while he undergoes treatment. “My doctors feel there is abundant reason for optimism. The cancer is slow-moving, has not spread to any vital organs, and does not affect my digestive system,” Rosendahl states in the letter. He says, “I am going to beat this cancer and return to work soon. I am going to seek, win, and complete a third term.”
Within Los Angeles’s City Council, Rosendahl represents the coastal and Westside communities of Brentwood, Del Rey, Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Palms, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, Venice, West LA and Westchester. Since taking office in July of 2005, Rosendahl has focused on stopping the expansion of Los Angeles International Airport into neighboring communities, promoting mass transit, improving public safety, slowing over development, and seeking solutions for the homeless problem. With prospects of a third term, Rosendahl states in his letter that he will “keep the City safe and fiscally sound, build mass transit and promote alternative transportation, and modernize LAX without expanding into neighboring communities.”He goes on to affirm that he will focus on building affordable housing and providing services and housing for the homeless.
He concludes the letter by saying, “I frequently remind people that, ‘all we have is the moment.’ In this particular moment, I am grateful that I have the love and support of family and friends, the inspiration and example of countless cancer survivors, one of the best jobs in the world, and a spirit of faith and confidence that the best is yet to come.”
