Fall Exhibits At The Getty
Posted by Ryan J. Beard on Sep 20, 2012 - 11:13:52 AM

BRENTWOOD—The Getty has some fantastic current and upcoming exhibits this fall. Be sure to visit the Getty in order to see them for yourself in the unique, breathtaking museum. Highlighted below are three exhibitions sure to be educational, entertaining, beautiful, and interesting.

To start, the Last Days of Pompeii is currently on display and will be at the Getty until January 7, 2013. The exhibit focuses on the preservation of Pompeii after the catastrophic eruption of Mount. Vesuvius and the influence it had on art, several of which are viewable within the exhibition.

Florence at the Dawn of the Renaissance will be at the Getty starting November 13 and will be on display until February 10, 2013. Within the major international loan exhibition are seven breathtaking paintings by Giotto, “the largest number ever assembled in North America,” says the Getty.

Alongside Giotto’s paintings are beautiful works by his Florentine contemporaries including painters Bernardo Daddi, Taddeo Gaddi, Pacino di Bonaguida. Also featured within the exhibit are the earliest illuminated copies of Dante’s masterpiece, "The Divine Comedy,” and “nearly all the surviving leaves from the most important illuminated manuscript commission of the early 1300s, the Laudario of Sant’Agnese.

Currently on display until October 7 at the Getty is In Focus: Picturing Landscape. The exhibition features pre-photographic drawings made with the aid of a camera lucida to digitally generated print drawn entirely from the J. Paul Getty Museum’s collection. The exhibition is divided into three themes: 19th-century technical explorations, the 20th-century turn toward developing a particular camera vision, and the ways that contemporary photographers have framed the landscape to make environmental and conceptual statements.

Check the Getty’s website for more information and additional exhibits.
