BRENTWOOD—Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were kept busy in Brentwood throughout Labor Day.
In addition to trying to contain a brushfire that was reported in Mandeville Canyon during the afternoon of Monday, September 5, firefighters earlier had to contend with a vehicle that caught fire at 10:48 a.m. on the shoulder of the 1-405 Freeway near Getty Center Drive, LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey tweeted at the time. The fire spread to a small amount of adjacent brush.
"Upon
LAFD arrival the vehicle was full involved in flames and additional
firefighters were immediately requested. These firefighters made a swift
attack from the north while their colleagues
strategically made a simultaneous attack from Sepulveda," Erik Scott told Canyon News.
"They utilized
water, foam and shovels to quickly suppress the flames before anyone
was injured," Scott said.
According to Scott and online California Highway Patrol data, several northbound and southbound lanes, including the Skirball on-ramp, were consequently closed until after 11:30 a.m.
"We're pleased to report this car/brush fire was quickly extinguished without injury," Humphrey tweeted at about 11 a.m.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Scott said.
