N.J.—The San Francisco Forty-Niners traveled across the country to battle the
New York Jets and came back home with a 34-0 victory.
The Niners used a
revamped and versatile running attack to bury their opponent, that included
touchdown runs scored by running backs Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter and backup
quarterback Colin Kaepernick from the wildcat formation.
defense pitched the first shutout of the season and the special teams rounded
out the complete performance by blocking a punt. Quarterback Alex Smith helped
balance the attack by completing passes to six different receivers for 143
yards and no interceptions.
After a tough loss last week at Minnesota, Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh kept the team out on the road. They practiced in Ohio all week to avoid unnecessarily traveling back and forth across the country. The strategy apparently worked, as the defense overwhelmed the Jets offense and held them to 145 total yards. San Francisco improved to 3-1 and return home next Sunday to play the Buffalo Bills.
