Giants Take 2-0 Lead On Tigers
Posted by Michael Mintos on Oct 26, 2012 - 9:07:56 AM

SAN FRANCISCO—Another stellar performance by the San Francisco Giants pitching staff on Thursday has helped the team inch closer to a World Championship. Madison Bumgarner pitched seven scoreless innings and only allowed two hits to safeguard the Giants victory over the Tigers 2-0 on a thrilling night at AT&T Park. The win put San Francisco up two games on the Tigers as the series heads to Detroit on Saturday.

San Francisco right fielder Gregor Blanco played a decisive role in building and securing the shutout both in the field and at the plate. In the seventh inning, Blanco laid down a bunt that the Tigers defense just watched completely stop inches from the third base line to remain fair and load the bases with no outs.

Immediately after, Brandon Crawford hit a grounder to Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta who opted for the easy double play, allowing Hunter Pence to score for the Giants. Pence had his hand in the other run for the Giants as he hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to help center fielder Angel Pagan score.

Blanco proved his value to the team when Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder tried to score on a double to left by outfielder Delmon Young in the top of the second. Blanco played the dribbling ball off the wall and fired a relay to Marco Scutaro who sent it home for catcher Buster Posey to tag Fielder in the nick of time. The aggressive move with no outs by the Tigers allowed the Giants to keep the game scoreless until Blanco’s masterful bunt opened things up in the seventh.
