LAX Thanksgiving Rush Hour
Posted by Michael Lambrose on Nov 14, 2012 - 3:57:10 PM

LOS ANGELESThe number of passengers traveling through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is expected to reach 1.78 million people this Thanksgiving.

This would mean a 16 percent increase from last year’s reported 1.53 million individuals who traveled via LAX.  According to airport officials the busiest day to travel will not be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, but in fact the following Monday, when passenger volume is expected to real 167,000 travelers.

According to airport officials, preliminary reports from airlines confirm this influx.  Most flights are expected to be over 80 percent full, while much of those will be fully booked.

Despite the increase in number of travelers, officials state that passenger volume has still not returned to its 2007 levels (the busiest post-9-11 year).  Officials cite that this is due to the nation’s current economic situation.

To ensure that passengers make their flights, officials suggest that anyone leaving during the peak hours of 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. arrive at the airport at least two hours before any domestic flight and three hours before any international flight.  Officials also suggest checking to flights online and prior to arrival.  To aid passengers, LAX will be again utilize the Volunteer Information Professional (VIP) and Airport Guide programs.
