LOS FELIZ—Grammy Award-winning rock band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, held an intimate benefit concert last Wednesday to raise money for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. The concert took place at LA Live’s Club Nokia to raise money for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. The show was sold-out, and raised nearly $1 million during their two-hour rock session.
The funds raised at the benefit along with the proceeds from the event were donated to the school in order to continue the funding for the school’s operating costs. Also it would fund their scholarship program, which is designed to offer the children who may not be able to afford music education.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist, Michael Blazary aka Flea, co-founded the Conservatory of Music, along with Keith Barry in 2001. The band’s lead singer, Anthony Keidis sits on the board of directors. The event was sponsored by Goldenvoice and the Staples Center Foundation.
The Conservatory is a non-profit organization designed to bring music to the lives of children whom may not be able to afford it. It is meant to “fill the void in the cultural landscape of our community,” as stated on the school’s website. It a place to study music at an affordable price. Grants are given to children who deserve it, which would provide free lessons and instruments.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers will release their tenth album on Aug 30, which will be entitled “I’m With You” from Warner Bros. Records. They donated the time, money and effort for the children who want to be rock stars to pursue their dreams. They have helped give children an opportunity to achieve at an affordable price.
