The Giants won Game 3.
CINCINNATI—On the brink of elimination in the 2012 MLB Playoffs, the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in 10 innings to stay alive in the National League Divisional Series. After losing the first two games at home,
San Francisco took advantage of a couple miscues by
Cincinnati and scored a run in the top of the 10th to extend their season for at least one more day.
The Giants overcame 16 strikeouts by the Reds pitching staff and only managed three hits. However, two of those hits, by Buster Posey and Hunter Pence, came in the 10th to put runners on first and second. A passed ball by Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan allowed the runners to advance and made the home crowd of 44,501 restless.
Giants shortstop Joaquin Arias hit a ground ball to third which was bobbled by Reds third baseman Scott Rolen, allowing Arias to reach first safely and Posey to cross home plate for the game winning score.
San Francisco avoided a series sweep for the third time in franchise history and will have Barry Zito on the mound Wednesday night for Game 4 in
