Asner's representatives stated Wednesday that the 83-year-old was hospitalized in a Chicago-area hospital. Asner's show reportedly began 45 minutes late and he was having difficulty going through his lines.

He was eventually helped off stage and was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. He is expected to be released sometime Wednesday.

Asner is best known for his roles on TV's "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and its spinoff "Lou Grant," both of which earned him an Emmy Award.

The actor has been touring nationally for over three years performing his one-man show "FDR" in which he portrays President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
