HOLLYWOOD—"Modern Family" actress Ariel Winter reportedly was removed from her mother's care due to allegations of physical and emotional abuse.

A court order from October 3 stated Winter's mother, Chrisoula Workman, had to stay 100 yards away from her 14-year-old daughter until a November 20 hearing. Records indicate that Winter is temporarily under the care of her older sister, Shanelle Gray, who is looking into becoming her permanent guardian.
According to Gray's guardian petition, Workman has slapped, hit and pushed Winter as well as abused her with "vile name calling, personal insults about [her and her weight], attempts to 'sexualize' minor, deprivation of food, etc. for an extended period of time."
Gray's petition also stated that it is important she be Winter's legal guardian and head of her estimated $500,000 estate in order to ensure the teenager's safety. Gray claims that Workman currently receives the checks from Winter's TV work and is in charge of her Coogan account, which is the money that by California state law is put aside for child actors when they reach adulthood. She is attempting to have the paychecks sent to a new bank account that Workman cannot access.
Workman has spoken out claiming that the allegations are untrue and has stated she has proof that Winter was not abused. Reports have indicated, however, that Gray was abused herself two decades ago as the Department of Children and Family Services removed her from her mother's home after similar abuse allegations. Gray was then placed in foster care for over two years and never returned to Workman.
